More on the tenth anniversary of Guantanamo, plus why media ignore climate change, and Now We Know. After watching UP a few times, I agree with the name of the show: it's about hot air. There's enough hot air from the not-very-talented Hayes and his bottom-feeder guests to send a balloon up, up, and away.
Chris Hayes is very good, very smart, very capable and could argue rings around the Fox News empty heads you listen to.
The Michael Mann segment was wonderful. I wish more cable news shows would have him on. It's sad that he is so unfairly attacked by the Know-Nothing Party.
Annie might have had some reasoning behind the evaluation she made, but since she didn't provide it, we are left with empty assertions. There may or may not be some good reasons behind her perspective, but there is no way of knowing.
I don't think there is any reasoning in Annie's mind. Not very talented? bottom feeders? She is a troll at best. I doubt she finished high school.
The Gitmo Interview was terribly hard to watch..You did an excellent job, Chris!
Am watching the Sunday show and the discussion of SOPA... One of the things most evident was that Mr. Cotton convinced me that this legislation is a corporate sham. He was condescending and rude! Seems a blanket witch hunt from Issa and Congress! How much lobbying money has gone into this recent ploy! NBC Universal would be better served by another Head Counsel... Mr. Cotton served the opposition by confirming with alacrity, the self deceit that one must go to to push legislation NOT FOR THE PEOPLE!
Great show...Learn something every program!
There is a media blackout on NDAA Bill just signed into law. Google the below and go to the bottom of David Seaman's page and you'll find links to NDAA information sights such as the ACLU, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch. (This page doesn't allow links to be posted.)
Google: "Business Insider censorship"
This isn't play time honey. You're expected to bring your A game. So, have you bothered to actually read the bill AND read the president's statement he made about it? Or do you just repeat whatever you are spoon fed at Faux News?
What the president said: “My administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation.” and also "The fact that I support this bill as a whole does not mean I agree with everything in it. In particular, I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists."
And from the bill itself: "Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States."
Yes, I've done a lot of research on it and so have a lot of constitutional experts, attorneys, and civil libertarians. I don't want to get into an online debate, I'm merely pointing people in a direction so they can access the information themselves.
If you want learn more you can also google each of the following line items along with "NDAA" and it'll take you to credible sources. Alternately, you can get the links directly as I described above in my previous post.

If Jack Abramoff was an ordinary, non-glamorous criminal, say, someone who stole cars or who ran a prostitution ring, no one would care what he says. So why should we care what Abramoff says about anything? I think it was a big mistake for Chris Hayes to have him on as a guest.
You know when you delete dave it is going to fold your post, Tyler?
I don't need Jack Abramoff to tell me that Washington is corrupt. He was one of the worst offenders in making it that way. He made millions of dollars by engaging in corruption. So, now we reward him by making him a media celebrity???
Chris - love your show!
To be honest, I can't figure out if Abramoff is a good guy or still a bad guy. What do others here think?
I think maybe he is both..if that makes any sense.. And to the poster who feels nobody needs him or his book I bring this up: Back in the eighties and ninetie (and now ) people that were convicted of hacking and served time were actually HIRED when they got out of jail by the government and major private corporations to help them fight the exact type of people that they were before getting caught. So why not use Abramoff to combat the corruption in Washington?? He was obviously successful, why not use his talents for good?? And let's not even talk about all the medical advances we garnered from the atrocities that were done to the jews during the Holocaust. People don't want to think about it but ALOT of advances in surgeries and other medical procedures( I could name many many but won't-do some research if it intrigues you any..i.e. google) but we turned a blind eye as it allowed or medical field to put them to help not hurt. These are just two examples of how to turn bad into good.
So if Abramoff is willing USE HIM!!
Will I buy his book? nope..but if the guy who stole cars was really good at it???
maaaaybe ;)
Thanks for your reply.
I guess I just don't trust the guy. I don't think I ever will.
I watch MSNBC more often than CNN or FOX........and stand by my opinion on Chris Hayes low-grade talent, as well as my opinion on the majority of his guests.
But this morning (Jan.15), he had talent on the show! Sestak is a straight shooter. Cotton did a very good job. A couple of others were high caliber. If - and that's a big IF - you are going to have honest discussions on a talk show, you MUST have people with differing points of view.
Hayes seems to act more as a cheerleader for one view, with the cheering section selected to follow his lead.
BTW, Takenaka - I'll compare education / SAT scores / college class standing with you any day of the week.......and my degree is in a tough discipline, a discipline that rejects many applicants.
Annie are you related to Mitt Romney?? Becasue you seem very adept at flip-floping! Just look at your first post and then this one.
Just saying :)
Chris, You are wrong when you said that the US Supreme Court does not have a relationship with big money. Judges Scalia and Thomas had lunch with the lawyer that brought the Citizens United case to the Supreme Court. Also, they have attended Koch brothers retreats. When it comes to Judge Thomas, his wife, Virginia, has been a lobbyist for the Health Care industry to overthrow the Affordable Health Care Act and has been paid for this work. Why did you not mention these facts?
Chris and co.,
Just wanted to let you know I thought this Saturday's discussion on climate change was brilliant. Aside from the "dream within a dream" component of reporting on how the situation is under-reported, the discussion was honest and fair. Thanks for raising that bar and here's hoping others follow suit.
